Model Bodies – What’s Your Body Worth

In Fashion, In The Media on June 14, 2010 at 10:22 am

The New York Times did a featurette about the modeling world’s latest epidemic: modeling scouts that flock to the South of Brazil looking for the next Gisele, Ambrosio, et al. The presence of scouts in South Brazil has exploded, so much so that principals allow for scouts to come into the school during break times.

Does anyone else find it odd that the scouts have researched the genetic background of the small villages in and around South Brazil, discovered that the genetic makeup there is more concentrated with heavy influences of Italian and German genes, and that this “genetic cocktail” represents the desired look for the modeling world at large?

I am intrigued by this. Both for the financial and social ramifications on this region of the world. The young cherubic looking model-hopeful that they featured spoke of a story that unfortunately is known all too well. But at the same time, these girls’ educations are sacrificed for something ‘more.’

I guess it’s a good thing that models of color and different body types are increasingly becoming desired. But I feel like i’ve heard it before.Side note: It’s rumored that Halle Berry is the next cover model for Vogue‘s September issue. The last time a black person was on THIS issue – 1989 (Naomi Campbell.)

What’s YOUR Body worth?

Trusting Your Gut

In Fashion, In The Media, Manifesto on March 24, 2010 at 6:54 am

(unless your two nickels short of ten cents.)

We are all unique individuals, unique individuals are we. We all come to the flock with our own sensibilities, our own tempers, and our own lived experiences. And, some of those connections, like the first one that lead to the light bulb, explode when they collide. But, that’s fine. That explosion can lead to good things I say. Why the semi-philosophical tidbit this humpday?

I LOVE when people go the off center route. In Hollywood, that means not having a stylist. Gasp! I know right. But, Marion Cotillard cand do it. So, Instead of paying $8000 to have someone tell me how to flaunt it, I’m going to continue/keep trusting my own gut and let my style naturally shine through. It’s when I’m most confident, most energized, most comfortable. Granted, I will ask for input, but, I will not pay for it.

*If I look like an unkempt Amy Winehouse, be a friend. Tell me to take a shower.*

PS – I love Amy Winehouse.
